A Vision for Expansion
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has unveiled an extensive growth plan set to redefine its fleet and private island offerings. The parent company of Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises has announced the introduction of eight innovative vessels, increasing capacity by around 25,000 berths. Additionally, a newly built pier at Great Stirrup Cay, the company’s private island in the Bahamas, is in the works.
This large-scale expansion will be executed over the next decade, with a gradual rollout between 2026 and 2036.
This series of ship acquisitions across our three distinguished cruise brands ensures consistent fleet growth and long-term stability,” said Harry Sommer, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. “These enhancements enable us to maximize operational effectiveness, reinforce our industry leadership, and elevate our services for passengers.”
Eight New Ships Across Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ Brands
As part of the expansion, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) will receive four new ships, each boasting a gross tonnage of roughly 200,000 and designed to carry nearly 5,000 passengers. These vessels, contingent on financial approval, are scheduled for delivery in 2030, 2032, 2034, and 2036.
Oceania Cruises is also preparing for growth following the completion of its final Allura Class ship in late 2025. The cruise line will introduce two new 86,000-gross-ton vessels, each with a guest capacity of 1,450, set to debut in 2027 and 2029.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises is similarly on track to receive two luxurious new ships. These vessels, weighing in at 77,000 gross tons and accommodating up to 850 passengers, are expected to launch in 2026 and 2029.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has already obtained financing covering 80% of the cost for the two Oceania and Regent Seven Seas Cruises vessels. Meanwhile, the company is actively seeking funding for its Norwegian Cruise Line fleet expansion. Mark A. Kempa, Chief Financial Officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, remains positive about the financial outlook.
With a structured payment framework, which includes pre-delivery financial arrangements and manageable initial deposits, we foresee a significant reduction in Net Leverage by 1.5 times by the end of 2024, compared to 2023. We anticipate ongoing yearly reductions in Net Leverage,” he stated.
These ships will be built at the esteemed Fincantieri Shipyard in Italy. Additional details on onboard accommodations, dining options, entertainment features, and other amenities will be revealed in the coming months.
Continued Expansion of the Prima Class Fleet
Norwegian Cruise Line has already been bolstering its fleet with its Prima Class series. The cruise line introduced Norwegian Prima in 2022 and Norwegian Viva in 2023. Construction is ongoing for Norwegian Aqua, expected to launch with voyages between Bermuda and New York City in 2025. Three more vessels in this series are planned for completion by 2028.
Upgraded Experience at Great Stirrup Cay
Beyond fleet enhancements, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has announced a major upgrade for its private island, Great Stirrup Cay. The company plans to invest $150 million in the construction of a new pier, which will allow two large ships to dock at the island simultaneously.
We are excited about the addition of a new pier at Great Stirrup Cay, which will improve our ability to accommodate increasing Caribbean cruise demand and enable multiple vessels to visit the island at once,” Sommer stated.
The project is designed to enhance the visitor experience while reinforcing Norwegian’s presence in the Caribbean region. Along with Harvest Caye in Belize, Great Stirrup Cay will further solidify Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ commitment to offering premier island destinations.
Construction on the new pier is expected to begin in summer 2024, with completion slated for late 2025. Once operational, the facility will facilitate seamless embarkation and disembarkation, giving guests more time to enjoy the island’s stunning beaches and exclusive amenities.
This expansion marks a transformative phase for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, showcasing its dedication to innovation, customer satisfaction, and future progress.
